Hartford Public Library Unveils New Library on Wheels

[Hartford, CT – June 6] Hartford Public Library (HPL) is proud to announce the launch of its brandnew Library on Wheels (LOW). This state-of-the-art mobile library brings books, technology, and services directly to the heart of Hartford’s neighborhoods.

HPL’s LOW is committed to bringing a sense of community to all neighborhoods in the city of Hartford and aspires to connect residents with their nearest HPL location, providing services for those who lack convenient access to a library in their neighborhood.

“The Library on Wheels is more than a mobile library, it’s a symbol of accessibility, inclusivity, and opportunity,” said Bridget E. Quinn, HPL President and CEO. “We understand that transportation and time can be barriers for many in our community. Mobile and outreach services allow us to meet our neighbors where they are, creating stronger connections and more opportunities for lifelong learning.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony included remarks from HPL President and CEO Bridget E. Quinn and Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam, as well as community partners who played an essential role in bringing this initiative to life. It also included a chance to step inside and explore the vehicle firsthand, as well as a story time for families and children.

HPL would like to thank the Beatrice Fox Auerbach Fund at The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, Jonathan Gengras, and Gengras Motor Cars for their generous support in helping us to launch the new LOW.

“I am thrilled to announce the launch of Hartford’s new Library on Wheels, bringing the power of books, community, and learning directly to our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Arunan Arulampalam. “This innovative mobile library will help break down barriers to literacy and opportunity, ensuring that every resident, no matter what corner of the city they live in, can access the resources they need to learn, grow, and succeed. I want to thank our community partners and the dedicated staff at Hartford Public Library for making this vision a reality.”

LOW is a rolling hub of learning, connection, and community engagement. It is scheduled to make weekly stops across the city, with special focus on underserved neighborhoods, local schools, community centers, and public events. HPL continues to innovate how library services are delivered, ensuring everyone in Hartford has the tools they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

“At Hartford Public Library, we believe that access to knowledge and opportunity should never be limited by geography,” said Bridget E. Quinn. “We’re building a library system that’s as mobile, flexible, and inclusive as the community it serves.”
