Be a Part of History: Help Transform the Village’s Historic Campus to Support Kids for Generations
Join the final push to raise $500,000 and create a life-changing legacy for children in need
June 2, 2025 | Hartford, Conn. The Village for Families & Children (The Village) is celebrating a monumental milestone — the 100th anniversary of its historic campus at 1680 Albany Avenue — by launching a Centennial Campus Transformation Campaign to ensure that children who need support to overcome challenges and recover from trauma have the safe and nurturing environment they deserve.
For a century, The Village’s campus has been a sanctuary for thousands of children, helping them heal and find loving, permanent homes. Now, The Village is calling on the community to help revitalize the 100-year-old campus’s living and recreational spaces that children utilize during their time on the grounds.
Donations in any amount will make a difference, and gifts of $1,000 or more will be memorialized with an engraved brick on the campus to honor the generosity of individuals and corporations who step up to help.
“Our campus has been a place of hope and healing for generations. With our community’s help, we can ensure that it continues to be a beacon of care and compassion for children in need,” said Village President & CEO Hector Glynn. “We’re immensely grateful for all of those who have stepped up to help so far, and we look forward to honoring their generosity with a lasting tribute.”
Donations will help with:
Remodeling 100-year-old residential buildings with a bright kitchen and cozy bedrooms that provide children with a place to rest and heal.
Creating a therapeutic recreational space with a playground, ball fields, and walking trails so that children can focus on just being a kid.
The goal of the campaign is to raise a total of $3.4 million to create a safe, nurturing, and modern environment where children can thrive. With $2.9 million already secured, the community’s support is needed to raise the final $500,000.

The campus at 1680 Albany Avenue started as an orphanage 100 years ago. Today, it is central to addressing the state’s mental health crisis, helping as many as 60 children and adolescents each day. With its ability to help youth with varying levels of acuity and needs — including walk-in, outpatient, and short and long-term residential mental health treatment — there is no other facility of its kind in Connecticut.
Support will ensure that every child who spends time at The Village, whether it’s for a few hours after school each day or 24/7 for six months, has the safest and most nurturing environment possible.
